Installed and photographed at Fort de Russy in Waikiki, this site was chosen for it’s proximity to Aunty Keahi’s home in Kaka’ako. It also bridges between the architectural landscape (primarily hotels) and the power of Diamond Head and the ocean. Hula is performed almost nightly at the hotels and grass huts are a common part of beach scenery. At our photoshoot, Kiani Maile performed a dance for Pele within the giant hula skirt, the powerful goddess of fire.
